Animal Facilities

All of the facilities and care and use programs for laboratory animals used in biomedical research and housed at the University Park campus are coordinated by the Animal Research Program (ARP). The available animal facilities include space for most of the common laboratory animal species.

ARP employs animal technicians whose duties include daily animal observation, routine watering and feeding, and cleaning of the equipment and animal rooms. The animal technicians report to the ARP Coordinator who is responsible for the assessment and correction of any concerns or problems associated with animal care and husbandry within the facilities.

Animals may not be held overnight in areas other than IACUC approved laboratory animal facilities. Transportation of animals to another institution or facility must be directed through the ARP.

Animal holding rooms may not be used to store equipment or supplies. The Coordinator may grant exceptions to this rule in special circumstances, such as the use of biohazardous materials.
