Somatic mutations of mtDNA are implicated in the aging process, but there is no universally accepted method for their accurate quantification. This study used ultra-deep sequencing to study genome-wide mtDNA mutation load in the liver of normally- and prematurely-aging mice.
Using motivation to feed as a way to assess the importance of space for broiler chickens
Modern broiler chickens (bred for meat production) are raised under high-density conditions that allow maximum production efficiency. Concerns about the effects of these conditions on the health and welfare of birds has spurred research attempts to determine if high density rearing is detrimental.
