Intellectual Property Office

Mission

The mission of the Intellectual Property Office at Penn State is to protect, transfer, and enforce Penn State intellectual property. The IPO encourages commercial interest in Penn State inventions and seeks to generate revenue from Penn State intellectual property.

In calendar year 2007, the Intellectual Property Office filed 125 U.S. patent applications and 37 were awarded. Royalty revenues for calendar year 2007 exceeded $2.5 million.

The Intellectual Property Office is part of the Research and Technology Transfer Organization (RTTO) of the Senior Vice President for Research at Penn State. It coordinates its activities with the other RTTO offices, specifically with the Industrial Research Office, the Ben Franklin Technology Center, and the Research Commercialization Office, as well as with Penn State's Office of Sponsored Programs.
