Intellectual Property OfficePenn State is one of the leading research universities in the United States, with a total research budget in excess of $638 million. Our extensive research activities generate volumes of information. Much of this information is published in dissertations, reports, presentations, and in other formats, such as the popular Research/Penn State magazine. Discoveries and inventions with commercial potential, however, are protected prior to public disclosure. These, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and know-how, are Penn State's intellectual property. The Intellectual Property Office is responsible for managing, protecting, and licensing the intellectual property of faculty, graduate students, and staff at all Penn State locations. The Intellectual Property Office is a unit of the Research and Technology Transfer Organization under the Senior Vice President for Research at Penn State.
