Economic Development
The IRO is part of the Research and Technology Transfer Organization at Penn State. Our mission is to benefit society by stimulating economic development through the transfer and utilization of Penn State research, knowledge and resources. The IRO supports this mission by creating and growing relationships between business and the Penn State research community, leading to solutions that enhance our industry partners' competitive position in the global marketplace.
The IRO is an active partner in economic development initiatives for our region and for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We are part of local groups such as:
PA Prosperity Partnerships
A strategic planning initiative established to identify Penn State resources that can be leveraged by Pennsylvania regions to strengthen their economic base and build capacity to innovate. This video is an introduction to regional and university collaboration centered around innovation and economic development. |

Sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association, the Penn State Grassroots Network is an education and advocacy group of more than 38,000 Penn State alumni, parents, students, and friends. Network members freely volunteer their time to communicate the University’s goals, contributions, initiatives, and needs to community leaders, policymakers, legislators, and government officials.
