Dr. Bruce Logan (right) and the BEAMR processThe Penn State Hydrogen Energy Center joined the Industrial Research Office at the NHA (National Hydrogen Association) Annual Hydrogen Conference in San Antonio from March 19-21. Dr. Bruce Logan, Director of the Hydrogen Energy Center, serves on the NHA Board of Directors and Executive Committee. At the event, the Penn State team discussed the University’s progress in hydrogen storage, production, utilization, and education. A hot topic at the event was Dr. Logan’s research of microbial fuel cells, specifically the bioelectrochemically assisted microbial reactor (BEAMR) process. The BEAMR process is a two-chambered system that produces pure hydrogen gas.

Hydrogen Fueling Station at Penn StateDr. Joel Anstrom, Director of the Hybrid and Hydrogen Vehicle Research Lab at Penn State, also attended the event. Dr. Anstrom discussed the facilities at Penn State such as the Hydrogen Fueling Station, Hybrid Electric Vehicle Lab, the One-mile Test Track and the Heavy Vehicle Lab.
