Researchers seeking healthy men ages 21-35 for study on personality, sleep, and health

The purpose of this research study is to assess the links between personality, daily positive and negative events, sleep quality, and cardiometabolic markers in daily life. We hope to use the results of this study to inform interventions to improve daily mood and sleep quality. Participation in this study would have four parts. If you meet inclusion criteria, first you would be asked to take a baseline survey online; then you would be asked to complete a daily survey component that consists of a short in-person training session followed by 14 days of short daily surveys, during which time you would be asked to wear a non-invasive actigraphy watch (similar to a FitBit); finally, you would be asked to come in for one final in-person visit for a blood draw to assess cardiometabolic factors related to stress. In total, it is expected that the entire study (baseline survey, training session, daily survey completion, and cardiometabolic session) should take you approximately 6.5 hours, spread over the course of a few weeks. It is emphasized that your participation is voluntary. You will not be penalized in any way for not participating, or for dropping out at any point throughout the study.

Therefore, you have a chance to earn a total of up to $58 for your time participating in this study. You will also be given access to a summary of your actigraphy-determined sleep quality information. (For more specific study details, see below.)

Study Dates, Times and Location

Location of Study:
Biobehavioral Health Building and Clinical Research Center
By Appointment?:
Yes
Approx Study Length:
6
hour(s)
Study Length Details:
1. If you are eligible to participate, the first part of participation will involve completing a 45-60 minute online survey about personality and recent health. You will be sent a link to this online survey, which you can complete from wherever you like. The completion of this survey makes you eligible for the mobile smartphone completion component of the study. For completion of the baseline survey, you will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win one of 20 prizes of $10 each. 2. The second portion of the study involves completion of a 30 minute in-person training session on Penn State’s campus where you will complete informed consent and learn how to complete the daily surveys and how to wear the non-invasive actigraphy watch that you will be provided for the course of the study. 3. You will then be enrolled in an 14-day mobile smartphone survey component, during which time you will use your personal smartphone to answer 2 very short surveys per day (in the morning and evening) for 14 days and continuously wear the actigraphy watch. You will be sent a text message with a link to each of these surveys that you can complete from your personal smartphone. You will be compensated up to $38 for completion of the mobile surveys, as well as be given information about your personal sleep patterns. 4. Finally, you will be scheduled for a short (no longer than 30 minute) in-person visit to assess cardiometabolic status; this will be scheduled within one month upon completion of the mobile smartphone survey component. At this visit, which will also occur on Penn State’s campus, blood pressure, heart rate, and one standard blood draw of 10mL of blood will be taken. You will be compensated $10 for this visit. http://forum.el-wlid.com/t573102.html
