Changes to COINS Make It More User-Friendly

Penn State’s Conflict of Interest System (COINS) has been updated to make it easier and faster for faculty to submit a conflict of interest disclosure. It will now take faculty fewer steps to submit a disclosure.

The core of the update was a redevelopment of the user home page. Now the homepage is the single navigation point for the system, and the new homepage provides summary information of a faculty’s disclosure status in the review process.  This includes more clear indication for whether a new disclosure needs to be created or a current disclosure requires further steps to be complete.

Faculty can find links to a detailed description of the update and new instructions on the COINS main page. A training video will also be available there soon.

The 2017 conflict of interest disclosure period is January 2 to April 30 for faculty at the Penn State College of Medicine. The disclosure period for faculty at Penn State University Park and all other campuses is February 1 to March 31.  During these dates, all Penn State faculty must submit their financial disclosures.

The update to COINS was a response to feedback from faculty.
