To accommodate the University’s winter holiday closing schedule, the Institutional Biosafety Committee’s (IBC) final 2019 meeting will be on December 10th. The deadline for submitting an IBC application (new or renewal) is 5:00 p.m. 15 days prior to the committee meeting date. The next IBC meeting will be January 21, 2020.

For IBC protocols associated with an IACUC protocol(s), the last IACUC Full committee Meeting is December 5, 2019. The last IACUC protocol review will be December 9, 2019.

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) reviews research and teaching activities involving the use of materials that have the potential to pose a danger to the health and safety of the researchers and the community. Prior to utilizing regulated biohazardous materials in teaching or research at Penn State, inidividuals must submit to the IBC for review and approval. The IBC also reviews applications for compliance with Penn State policies addressing infectious-waste disposal and the handling of human blood, blood products, tissue and/or cell lines samples. IBC applications can be found on the IBC webpage, which details instructions on application completion. IBC trainings must be up to date before approval can be granted.
