About the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

The purpose of the IACUC is to provide University-wide representation on policy issues. The IACUC is comprised of approximately twenty members and has both active and alternate members. For each member of the IACUC, there will be at least one alternate with the appropriate credentials to rotate into service of the active IACUC member upon request. Rotations will occur as warranted by the absence of individual members. The desired membership of the IACUC is as follows:

  • 3 Active investigators from Agricultural Sciences*
  • 3 Active investigators from Health and Human Development*
  • 3 Active investigators from Science*
  • 3 Veterinarians
  • 3 Community members
  • 1 Commonwealth Educational System Representative
  • 2 Research Administrators

*Active investigators from other colleges that are only occasionally involved in animal use, e.g., Liberal Arts, Engineering, Education, may be appointed to one of these positions with the mutual agreement and recommendation from the deans of the involved college.
