Training ModulesBloodborne Pathogen TrainingThe Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is responsible for ensuring that all Pennsylvania State University laboratory personnel (excluding Hershey Medical Center and the College of Medicine) who handle human blood and blood products, human body fluids, and human tissues are aware of the potential hazards involved in handling these materials and use the proper precautions to protect themselves from bloodborne diseases. University Policy SY-24 defines human blood and blood products, human body fluids, and human tissues as biohazardous materials. In addition to individuals who handle these materials, the Institutional Biosafety Committee also requires that any principal investigator of and/or advisor listed on studies that use these materials must complete Bloodborne Pathogen Training to ensure that these individuals are aware of potential risks.
