A great way to hear about the latest Educational News and Events is to subscribe to the ORP Listserv. The listserv is strictly an announcement list with approximately 5-10 posts per semester.

To subscribe, please send an email to: L-ORP-Research-L-subscribe-request@lists.psu.edu (no need to add any text to the subject or message part of the email) or contact the ORP Webmaster.

What is the IRB looking for in my study application?
IRB Reviewer Checklists for all levels of new studies and special circumstances are now available to researchers. These checklists are used by each IRB member to ensure that information in study applications is in compliance with federal and state regulations and university policies. With this new addition to the ORP website, you can see what reviewers look for in each application. Please click here to see these checklists to help you prepare your applications.

Orientation Handouts Available
Orientation Handouts for Graduate Students are now available on-line. If you attended the Graduate Student Orientation and did not receive a handout, you may click here for a PDF version.

Informed Consent Forms Updated
The ORP has recently updated its Human Participant Informed Consent sample forms and templates. Researchers who use them should download the latest copies on our Human Participant Sample Consent Forms page at http://www.research.psu.edu/orp/areas/humans/samples/index.asp.

Firefox 3 Bug May Impact Training Modules
Researchers who have upgraded to the Firefox 3 browser may have trouble viewing the ORP Training Modules, which are Adobe Flash .swf files. The following plugins/extensions are known to cause a browsing issue: Adblock, Adblock Plus, GreaseMonkey, NoScript, IE Tab and Google Toolbar. Developers are working to fix the bug, but researchers may need to temporarily uninstall the plugins/extensions to view training modules. If you have questions about uninstalling, please contact Michelle Panulla at 814-863-6833 or mpanulla@psu.edu.

Training Certificates Discontinued
In an effort to improve customer service and efficiency, the ORP has discontinued certificates as confirmation for our on-line training modules. Instead, a confirmation e-mail is sent upon successful completion of each module. If an investigator needs a copy of the confirmation e-mail sent to an outside party as proof of training, (s)he can contact the ORP at ORProtections@psu.edu to request a copy.
