All research involving animal subjects must be reviewed and approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) before research may begin. The Office for Research Protections coordinates the IACUC protocol review and facilitates the approval of using animals in research. This workshop prepares faculty, staff, and students to successfully complete submission requests for the use of animals in research experiments. It also provides participants with a general knowledge of the IACUC submission and review process. More specifically, this program will help participants successfully complete an application request for using animal subjects in research experiments and understand:

  • and follow the IACUC review process
  • federal requirements for using animal subjects in research
  • the components of Penn State's Animal Care and Use Programs
  • that using animals as research subjects is a privilege not a right
  • the process for justifying the use of animals in research activities
