Research Study Details
Participants are sought for a study examining the effects of probiotics (health-promoting bacteria), delivered via yogurt smoothies or tablets, on gut health and immune status. We are looking for healthy, non-smoking adults who are not taking cholesterol-lowering medications. Subjects will be provided with 4 different probiotic supplements over the course of 16 weeks with several compliance breaks in between. At the completion of the study participants will receive lab results and compensation of $400. This study is being conducted by Dr. Kris-Etherton, Distinguished Professor of Nutrition, Dr. Rogers, Assistant Professor of Nutrition, and Dr. Roberts, Professor of Food Science, at Penn State University.
We will conduct a free-living study in volunteers of either sex; age range between 18 and 40 years; BMI between 20 and 35 kg/m2; delayed gastrointestinal transit time; and blood pressure below 140/90. Participants will consume either of an 8-oz (240 g) daily serving of a probiotic yogurt drink, or one capsule per day. Participants will also be asked to maintain their weight and dietary/lifestyle patterns for the duration of the study.
