The Human Research Protections Program (HRPP) announced updated documents and processes at the March 22 HRPP Updates Webinar. New documents and processes go into effective April 1 and their use will be enforced starting with new submissions on 5/16/22. Already approved documents do not need to be changed to the new version. The updates include:

Updates to Consent

HRPP is now using the same consent templates across the University; consent templates are no longer separated by campus location. Consent templates have been consolidated from ten documents to five.

Suggested consent language is now available in the HRPP Consent Glossary.docx

Updated required consent language for compensation regarding injury, compensation for participants (non-COM), and HIPAA.

Researchers will notice minor protocol template revisions, including additional data storage options for studies not at the College of Medicine.

College of Medicine’s requirement to utilize a Signature Page for Telephone Consent has been removed. The requirement to document the consent process in the research record still applies.
