Inclusive Mentoring: A Spring Workshop for Faculty, Postdocs and Graduate Student Leaders

Engage in a meaningful dialogue about bullying in academia and inclusive mentoring at our Spring workshop! In a first-ever partnership between Postdoctoral Affairs, Faculty Affairs and Penn State's own national expert on workplace bullying, we’ll offer: 

  • Catered lunch (begins at noon)

  • Mentoring guide (digital and/or hard copy)

  • Talk by Dr. Hollis on bullying in academic research environments (begins at 12:30 pm)

  • Breakout sessions with Dr. Hollis and co-facilitators, Dr. Clements and Dr. Nicholas (playing this by ear- 1:30-1:45 pm)

  • Small and large group discussion on timely scenarios (faculty will head to Room 613, postdocs and graduate student will stay in Room 603)

  • Option for bringing everyone back together, reporting out (Room 613)

  • Zoom option at registration for our remote colleagues interested in the keynote talk

Featuring:

  • Dr. Leah P. Hollis (keynote speaker), Associate Dean of Access, Equity and Inclusion, who specializes in adult workplace bullying and diversity training.  She has penned five books, with a sixth in progress with Oxford University Press. With Dr. Hollis’ research-based knowledge, she has developed interactive workshops, keynote speeches, workshops, and policy consultancy for all higher education sectors.  Hollis is a national trainer dealing with diversity, unconscious bias, microaggressions, and workplace bullying in higher education.  Further, she addresses EEOC and Title VII regulations. Her recent book, Human Resource Perspectives on Workplace Bullying in Higher Education Understanding Vulnerable Employees' Experiences, examines the structural issues contributing to workplace bullying in higher education. Hollis is a Martin Luther King, Jr Fellow with an earned doctorate from Boston University.
