The Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) has moved to a single Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) for its IRB. Research teams and administrators are advised to update their records with the new FWA, which is needed for grant submissions and reliance agreements.
Important: the new number is the same FWA number as is currently used at the College of Medicine, but with a new name. Researchers and administrators at University Park and the Commonwealth campuses should update to the new FWA number now. The eRA Commons profile will be updated as well.
Institutions maintain FWAs with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to demonstrate their commitment to follow federal regulation for the protection of human subjects in research. Transitioning to a single FWA is one of the last steps in the HRPP’s transformation, which united the College of Medicine and University Park IRBs offices into a single program.
