The Office for Research Protections has recently updated University Guideline RPG01 The Responsible Conduct of Research.  RPG01 highlights best practices, offers guidance, and compiles many research-related policies into one primary reference for researchers.

Research is a primary function of the University, and research with integrity is a primary goal of all University Research.  The purpose of RPG01 is to provide instruction to enhance and promote a continuing culture of scientific integrity. The guideline aims to ensure the integrity of all aspects of scientific activities including proposing, conducting, reviewing, managing, communicating about science and scientific activities, and using the results of science. While aspirational in nature, RPG01 emphasizes some of the University’s core ethical principles and the expectations the University has of researchers and references other relevant University policies and guidelines to inform the actions and decisions of researchers.  Within the Guideline, researchers will find guidance on core topics, including:

  • research data integrity and management
  • responsible authorship
  • dissemination of research
  • peer review
  • collaborative research

RPG01 also outlines requirement for responsible conduct of research education, including Penn State's Scholarhsip and Research Integrity training (SARI), and addresses the responsibilities of research mentors and supervisors.

Those interested in learning more about the repsonsible conduct of research are encouraged to visit our website or attend a SARI workshop via Zoom.  Instructors and lab directors can also request group training sessions
