Who Can Serve as a Principal Investigator?

The following guidance identifies criteria for serving as a Principal Investigator (PI) on a research protocol for work requiring approval from the University’s IACUC, IBC (including IRE and ESCRO), IRB or UIC. A PI has ultimate responsibility for the research, testing or teaching activities approved by the above-mentioned committees and is ultimately responsible for assuring compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, laws and policies as well as University policies.
